We make theater

We teach theater

We are unashamed of our enthusiasm

Who is Double Text?

Where is Double Text?

Why is Double Text?

Double Text is Hal Cosentino and Ellenor Riley-Condit. We are artistic collaborators and life partners who manage to make all that work and then some. We love theater. We love our students. We love our dog. We want to very earnestly make live performance with you. We still think plays are cool and possible in this world. Do one with us?

We met making theater in Chicago and we often collab with folks in NYC. We moved to Austin, TX for Hal to get his MFA in Playwriting at UT Austin. We spend summers in upstate NY at Vassar’s Powerhouse Theater. As of Aug. 2025 we are based in Little Rock, AR during the academic year. Want to collaborate on something? We could be coming to a city near you…

Because we love live performance. Because sometimes it’s nice to name something. Because it’s not enough to say that theater should be made and taught differently, you actually have to do it. Because theater is the best way we have to experience our own humanity and yours. Because we want to rehearse with you how human beings could be together.

What is Double Text?

When is Double Text?

How is Double Text?

Double Text is a name for ourselves as a theatrical unit. It is a heading under which we produce work together and teach together. It is a  promise to ourselves to make plays even when it’s hard. It is a promise to our collaborators that we will make hot art in a chill way.  It is a promise to our students that we will work hard and have fun. It’s all the good stuff.

All the time! Though we often work as a team, especially in academic settings, we can be convinced to do things separately. As individual artists, Hal is more writing-focused and Elle is more acting-focused. Often, one of us is invited to consult on a project helmed by another artist we love. We won’t be offended if you only invite one of us to work with you.

We’re doing okay, all things considered. Thanks for asking.
